FAQ

Common questions

Which calculator do I use to work out my lot size on gold?

Use the position size calculator. You enter your account balance, the risk you are willing to take and your stop distance in pips, and it returns the lot size that fits. For XAU/USD, one pip is 0.01 and one standard lot is 100 oz, so the pip value changes with your lot size.

What is the difference between the pip value and the profit calculator?

The pip value calculator tells you what one pip is worth at a given lot size, which is a fixed input for planning. The profit calculator takes that further and shows the result of a full trade after your entry, exit and lot size. Use pip value for sizing and profit for reviewing an outcome.

How does the margin calculator handle leverage on gold?

The margin calculator divides your notional exposure by the leverage on your account. Because one lot is 100 oz, a 0.10-lot position at a reference price near 4275.0 is a large notional amount, and at 1:200 that needs about $85.50 margin. Remember leverage is a cap, not a setting to aim at.

Can the pivot point tool tell me where to enter a gold trade?

It calculates pivot levels from the previous session's high, low and close, which traders use as reference lines for support and resistance. It does not predict direction and it is not a signal. Treat the levels as places where price may react, then apply your own risk limit and position size.

Do these calculators include spreads, commissions or swaps?

No, they work from the inputs you type, so they do not know your broker's spread, commission or swap. Those costs depend on the broker, the account type and how long you hold the position. Add them yourself when you compare a planned trade with the result, because they reduce what you keep.
