FAQ

Common questions

What does the XAU/USD code actually mean?

XAU/USD is the price of one troy ounce of gold in US dollars, so the quote tells you how many dollars one ounce costs. In contracts, one standard lot is 100 oz and one pip is 0.01. A reference price near 4275.0 therefore means roughly $427,500 of notional value per standard lot.

Which sessions move gold the most?

Gold is most active when the London and New York sessions overlap, because that is when the largest share of dollar-denominated flows passes through. Asian hours are usually quieter. This is a general pattern, not a rule, and scheduled data releases can move price sharply at any hour, including outside your preferred window.

What drives the gold price day to day?

Gold responds mainly to the US dollar, real interest rates, inflation expectations, central bank buying and demand for safe assets during uncertainty. Because it pays no yield, it tends to react when rate expectations shift. No single factor explains a given move, so read the calendar and the dollar before assuming a trend.

Can I trade gold 24 hours a day from Nigeria?

Gold trades nearly around the clock on weekdays, from the Asian open through to the New York close, with a short daily break in most broker schedules. Weekend hours are closed. Your actual access depends on your broker's session times, which are usually published in platform time rather than West Africa Time.

Why is the gold price on this site different from my broker's quote?

Quotes differ because each source samples a different feed at a different moment, and brokers add their own spread and markup on top. A reference price near 4275.0 is an illustration, not a live executable quote. Always use your platform's bid and ask when you calculate entries, stops and margin.
